We consolidated our long-term goals – envisioning a future where a woman with a disability is supported not only by herself but also by her family, peers and community.
On 10th June 2015, a group of us at Point Of View mapped the second phase of Willing And Able, a program that empowers women with disabilities. We consolidated our long-term goals – envisioning a future where a woman with a disability is supported not only by herself but also by her family, peers and community.
This photo essay integrates our plan of action.
The focus of our project is the woman in the centre, a woman with any disability.
However, she doesn’t exist independent of the complexities in her social and cultural environment.
We will address the dynamics between a woman with a disability and her eco-system.
By using building blocks in the form of workshops, online and offline platforms, we will create a support system for her.
We will open up more spaces – physical, conceptual, community, psychological spaces – for her.
Her sexuality is an integral part of her and we will create spaces for bonding between her and her partners.
We will ensure she has equal access to information, communication and knowledge.
She needs to feel free to do whatever she wants with strength and mobility.
She needs to feel loved enough to claim her agency to the extent she can. The idea is for her to become empowered and celebrate the joy of being herself.
We are the Willing and Able team.
